The Schluchtensteig – a fascinating hiking trail through the southern Black Forest

In the summer of 2005, the nature adventure trail in Feldberg-Ort was opened. It offers families with children in particular a varied insight into the life of the capercaillie. The Wichtelpfad tells the story of Ferdinand, the gnome postman.

The Black Forest lies there quietly, covered in a thick layer of white snow. The glistening white paths and powder snow do the rest, tempting even those who are not keen on hiking to take a romantic trip into the fascinating natural surroundings. For those who want to enjoy the winter landscape, the 300 kilometers of groomed and rolled winter hiking trails in the Black Forest offer the best opportunity.
The seal is valid for three years and guarantees nature lovers a comprehensive range of activities. Within its 1,700-kilometer network of hiking trails, the Black Forest has 10 certified gourmet trails and 25 premium winter hiking trails with views of forests, mountains, and lakes, providing nature lovers in the Black Forest with unique experiences.
The 12-kilometer Feldberg-Steig trail was the first hiking trail in the vacation region to be awarded the premium seal. With the Säbelthomaweg in Hinterzarten, which opened in 2019, the Black Forest currently has 10 award-winning gourmet trails, all of which are certified as premium hiking trails. These are circular routes between 6 and 15 kilometers long, offering varied terrain, scenic landscapes, and continuous signage. Within the high-altitude climate region of the Black Forest, there are also 18 vitality hiking trails in six health resorts. During the snowy season, 25 premium winter hiking trails with a total length of 133 km promise proven quality. Along the way, the Black Forest travel guide app and numerous brochures and maps provide hikers with information. Guided tours are also popular in the Black Forest: last year, 50 hiking guides accompanied more than 480 group tours. Along the trails, 42 hiking hosts invite you to take a leisurely break. Nine local groups of the Black Forest Association ensure the safety and cleanliness of the trail network.
