Gourmet trails for hiking enthusiasts
As the saying goes: "Life is better in hiking boots." We can only add: Life is best when hiking in the Black Forest. Here you can enjoy leisurely hikes along the shores of Lake Schluchsee, but also hikes that require a good level of fitness and involve climbing a few meters in altitude. Hiking trips in Schluchsee promise plenty of variety and are a wonderful way to discover the Schluchsee hiking region. Let our hiking tips for the Schluchsee region inspire you for your next adventure.
Hiking pass for stamping
"Keep your eyes open" is the motto on the Black Forest Premium Hiking Trails. This is because there is a stamp point in the form of a cuckoo clock on every trail. These points offer the opportunity to document your hikes with stamps in the Black Forest Hiking Pass. After collecting three stamps, you can receive a holiday souvenir at one of the tourist information offices in the Black Forest. The hiking pass is also available at the tourist information offices or can be ordered online in advance here.
Schluchsee Hunter's Trail
Walk along the old hunter's trail and the historic border path through the woods up to the Bildstein viewpoint, which offers a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Schluchsee and, on a clear day, as far as the 3,614-meter-high Tödi in the Swiss Alps. A winding path then leads quickly down to Aha (refreshments available at the Hotel Auerhahn) and the comfortable lakeside path takes you quickly back to Amalienruh.
The starting point is clearly visible from afar with a wooden arch on the footpath on the B500, opposite Wolfsgrund, and is located about 20 minutes from the hotel.
Difficulty: medium / Length: 11.3 km / Duration: 4:00 hours.
Recommended stop for the Schluchsee hike: Unterkrummenhof
High Black Forest Shepherd's Trail
The hike along the High Black Forest Shepherd's Trail follows in the footsteps of shepherd boys along the high pastures around Raitenbuch. The trail runs mainly along the edge of the forest, with views of the Urseetal valley and moorland as far as Lenzkirch. The stories of former shepherd boys leave their mark along the way, just as the glaciers once pushed rocks and formed valleys and lakes, and then people cleared, plowed, planted, cultivated the land and thus set its boundaries.
Take bus 7257 from Schluchsee and get off at Fischbacherhöhe. It is about a 2.5 km walk to the starting point at Raitenbucher Höhe.
Difficulty: medium / Length: 7.8 km / Duration: 3:00 hours.
Starting at the Mösle parking lot in Hinterdorf, this hike takes you past several impressive old Black Forest farms. Crossing pastures with goats and chamois, you reach the halfway point with a view of the Menzenschwander Valley, which was once formed by glacial moraines. Passing through the Gate of Bliss and looking out over the valley from the wooden "Schesslong" (forest sofa), hikers are filled with a deep sense of contentment and strength. The tinkling of goat bells is a constant companion, as the goats love the sun and the warm ground here, just like the people.
The Menzenschwander waterfalls at the end of the hike are illuminated every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday evening from May to October.
Take the train to Seebrugg, then continue by bus 7319 to St. Blasien, then change to bus 7321 to Menzenschwand.
Difficulty: medium / Length: 10.3 km / Duration: 4:00 hours.

The Unterkrummenhof with its large playground is a lovely place to stop for refreshments right by the lake.

A hiking trip in Schluchsee that is well worth it! When the visibility is good, you can enjoy a wonderful view all the way to the Alps. The tower is always open to the public, but is not wheelchair accessible. Various paths lead directly to the tower from behind the hotel.
Schluchsee Dam
Easy, approximately 4 km long, mostly flat hike starting at the Schluchseehalle: The route takes you along a wide path suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, first through the forest, with the option of a detour via the Kaisertanne barbecue area. After about 2 km, cross the road and the railway tracks to reach the lakeside path, pass Seebrugg station, then walk a short distance along the B500. Information boards at the dam explain the structure and its use for power generation. The "Müllers an der Staumauer" kiosk sells drinks, snacks, and pedal boats. You can return either by the same route or by boat or train to Schluchsee.
