With an area of over five square kilometers, Schluchsee is the largest reservoir and also the highest lake in Germany. The water quality of the lake is regularly monitored, and Schluchsee has been one of the cleanest swimming lakes in Germany for several years. This makes Schluchsee not only one of the most important destinations and attractions in the Black Forest, but also one of the most attractive water sports centers in the region. The lake is perfect for a leisurely trip on the water or for challenging yourself athletically. From rowboats to pedal boats to SUPs, Schluchsee has something for everyone.

And after an eventful day on the water, our hotel in the Black Forest entices you with its summer terrace and many other cozy spots to end the day comfortably with delicious regional cuisine.

Boat trips on Lake Schluchsee

Become a captain and choose your boat from the fleet: pedal boat, rowboat, or electric motorboat.

  • Pedal boats
    Large boats, some with slides, for up to 4 people.
    Prices 1/2 hour: €8, 1 hour: €14.

    Actively explore the lake, space for up to 4 people.
    Prices 1/2 hour: €8, 1 hour: €14.
     
  • Electric boats
    Relax and enjoy the lake, space for up to 5 people.
    Prices 1/2 hour: €17, 1 hour: €29.

With paddle in hand – enjoying a sporty outing on the lake

What could be better than combining sport and fun while exploring the lake? The only question that remains is: how do you get out onto the lake?

The boathouse at Schluchsee offers a wide range of courses and rental options:

  • Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fastest-growing trend sports worldwide. The athlete stands upright on a type of surfboard and paddles with a single-bladed paddle. It is a fun way to be active on the water and is suitable for all ages.
    Beginners' course: 3 hours, ages 12 and up
     
  • Canoeing (also known as Canadian canoeing) is suitable for all ages. However, children should be around 8 years old to be able to paddle independently. The canoe is suitable for leisurely tours and is propelled by kneeling or sitting with a paddle.
    Beginners' course: 2 days, ages 12 and up
     
  • Kayaking is particularly popular for sporty tours. It is technically somewhat easier to learn than canoeing. In the narrow, fast boat, you sit very low and move forward with a double paddle.
    Beginners' course: 2 days, for adults
     
  • Opening hours 2024:
    May: weekends & public holidays 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
    June–September 15: daily 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
    September 11–October 3: weekends & public holidays 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Sailing on Lake Schluchsee – playing with the wind

With an area of around 1.4 square kilometers, surrounded by dense forests and nestled in the picturesque Black Forest landscape, Schluchsee offers ideal conditions for sailors of all skill levels.

At the Schluchsee sailing school, sailboats can be rented daily from May to September – proof of sailing skills is required.

If you would like to try out this great sport, you can register for a taster sailing session every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The taster course takes place on a Varianta, a boat that cannot capsize.
